Carney expects "a few by-elections" soon, with Liberal MPs set to resign

.Bloggers note : HAVE NO FEAR Carney has a slew of selected candidate with little or no opposition and some probably be imposed in particular ridings.   Maybe 6 to 12 by-elections is my guess! before summer ends .... he stand to loose more than he can gain in my estimation ...but liberals must have a few trick in the hat ...?? we ll see

.

Prime Minister Mark Carney responded to reporters' questions in Paris on Tuesday for the first time since former cabinet minister Chrystia Freeland announced she would be resigning from the House of Commons "in the coming weeks."   "My judgment was that taking that role would be consistent with resigning as an MP. And I welcome her, doing that," Carney said, adding, "there'll be a few by-elections coming up," with Liberal MPs set to resign.

The fluid dynamic back in the House of

Commons in Ottawa is set to potentially
change once again with Mark Carney
saying there will be multiple upcoming
bi-elections called with Liberal MPs set
to resign their seat.
We'll have a bi-election. There'll be a
few bi-elections coming up and we'll run
great candidates and the the people in
those writings will decide uh who they
want to send to Parliament. There's no
date for when any potential votes could
happen, but we do know that former
deputy prime minister Christoff Freeland
will be one of those MPs quitting after
she became an economic adviser to
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zalinski.
While that role led her to quit as Mark
Carney special representative on the
reconstruction of Ukraine, she still
hasn't quit as an MP despite saying she
plans to do so in the coming weeks. Both
the NDP and Conservatives have said it's
inappropriate that Freeland is an MP
while advising a foreign government.
When asked by Global News, Carney said
he didn't ask Freeland to stay on longer
because of the fragile situation in the
House of Commons, but he did say she
should leave her seat.
My judgment was that that taking that
role would be consistent with resigning
uh as an MP. Um and I I I welcomed her
doing that. Former cabinet ministers
Bill Blair and Jonathan Wilkinson are
widely expected to also be quitting
their seats and be appointed to be
ambassadors in Europe, where they'll
have to deal with navigating Donald
Trump's desire to take over the Danish
territory of Greenland.
Welcome to this little corner of Canada.
Carney met with the Danish prime
minister here in Paris, but was tepid in
his support, seemingly trying to balance
out Canada's relationship with the US on
a variety of fronts, including trying to
get a peace deal with Ukraine.
We stand with uh Denmark, we stand with
Greenland. Uh we're, you know, our
closest partnership is with the United
States and we'll work with everybody to
make sure that uh uh we move forward
together.
Car's trip to Paris was a quick one,
just about 24 hours here on the ground,
but he's expected to make many other
major trips in the start of 2026,
including an expected visit to China,
the first time a Canadian prime minister
will have visited Beijing since 2017.
