Dear paul,

As 2024 winds down, Canada needs the Macdonald-Laurier Institute more than ever. Over the course of the year, MLI led the national conversation about how to make Canadians safer, happier and more prosperous.

Please help us continue to lead in 2025!

When MLI speaks, our leaders listen

This year evidence of our impact abounded. Just a few examples include:

  • Just days after we partnered with Secure Canada, calling for Samidoun to be listed as a terrorist entity, the government answered that call;
  • MLI’s long-held position that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) should be listed as a terrorist organization was finally adopted in June, just weeks after our Inside Policy piece restated the case;

  • One day after our op-ed linked Russian media disinformation to an intricate web of infiltration operations, our Minister of Foreign Affairs made a statement condemning Russian state media (RT);

'We should all take a valium’ – Why Canadians should calm down about Trump: Brian Lee Crowley in the National Post

Tim Sargent on Canada’s anemic growth and productivity: MLI in Parliament

  • Our sober analysis of mismanaged immigration policy, which exposed the costs to Canadian workers and the flawed economic claims used to justify record-high levels, was followed by caps on various kinds of immigration;
  • Time and again MLI argued that any federal indigenous loan program must not exclude oil and gas projects. Reluctantly, the government found itself compelled  to follow our recommendation in April;

  • Just days after our report describing how China weaponizes TikTok for digital surveillance and influence, the head of Canada’s intelligence agency issued a statement warning Canadians to beware of the app;
  • Our Justice Report Card, which revealed homicides and sexual assault are at three-decade highs, and our Urban Crime Report, exposing similar trends in every major city, were widely cited in the House of Commons, the Senate, in both of Canada’s national newspapers, and in local outlets across the country.

Help us create lasting change in 2025

Our 2025 goals are the most ambitious in MLI’s history – the times demand nothing less. Canada is labouring under the burden of a housing crisis, a productivity crisis, a health care crisis, and a governance crisis. The horrifying scale of foreign interference in Canada is finally being dragged into the light. Hate crimes against Canada’s Jews are up 670% and our institutions are being twisted out of all recognition by the need to accommodate contentious and ill-conceived woke ideologies.

Will you make a year-end gift to help us put Canada on a better track?

In 2025, MLI will champion:

  • A new economic strategy for Canada;
  • Matching the size of government to our genuine needs and ability to pay;
  • A muscular approach to national defence and defending our democracy from foreign interference;
  • Unleashing the potential of our natural resource industries to unlock economic opportunity, Indigenous prosperity, energy security, and to strengthen Canada’s position in the world;
  • Discrediting and defeating  growing radicalism and antisemitism in the country;
  • Rescuing our universities and other institutions from ideological extremism and attacks on meritocracy;
  • Restoring Canada’s relations with the United States and making North America a beacon of prosperity, security and democracy for the world.

Donations to MLI are tax-deductible. Your gift before December 31 makes all the difference.

Sincerely,

Brian Lee Crowley
