and was also the president of the

treasury mr day is respected across our

nation as a political commentator as

strategist and someone who has a real

backbone on some of the issues of the

day so i'm excited that he's joining

know mr day the last time i had you on

my television show it was right right

before the emergencies act was about to

be invoked uh in the midst of the whole

truckers convoy uh situation there you

1:44

and i did a video breaking this down or

1:46

did a television show breaking this down

1:48

i think that that show has actually

1:49

gotten the most amount of views of any

1:52

of our shows in 2022

people just just so appreciated your

1:57

wisdom and how you broke that down and

1:59

just your viewpoint on it so

fast forward now we're about four or

2:03

five months down the line here uh the

2:05

emergencies act was invoked and now

2:08

there's an inquiry about whether or not

2:10

it should have been

2:12

what are your reflections at this point

2:14

in the timeline mr day

2:16

well great question and first i'd have

2:18

to reflect back and think you were being

2:20

somewhat prophetic at the time

2:23

in looking at the act the emergencies

2:25

act we all said this was a huge

2:27

overreaction it proved out later that it

2:30

was

2:31

but the prime minister and his ministers

2:33

have been saying well the police were

2:35

asking for it and now 11 times

2:38

just in recent days the minister has

2:41

stood up and said that the police asked

2:44

for it and time after time when they

2:46

interview all the various police forces

2:49

and those who are in authority in those

2:51

police forces they are all saying we did

2:54

not request this we did not request this

2:57

and the minister continues to say they

2:59

did so that's a huge problem in and of

3:02

itself

3:03

the other aspect of the emergencies act

3:05

first being a gigantic overreaction we

3:08

now have seen and mainstream media is

3:10

saying this that all of these incidents

3:13

that the that the government was saying

3:15

were happening insurrection and violence

3:17

and places being burned down all were

3:20

proven to be false about the truckers

3:22

and the situation the thing that really

3:24

turned it around and cut the act short

3:27

and caused the prime minister to rush

3:29

out and say we're canceling the act now

3:32

we've had it in place for a few days and

3:34

now we're pulling back is because of the

3:35

reaction they were getting from the

3:37

banks as as bank accounts were being

3:40

frozen unbelievably

3:42

banks were reacting because people were

3:45

either calling their banks frantically

3:48

or in fact beginning to move their money

3:51

out that's what really caused the prime

3:53

minister to react and panic and cancel

3:56

the act

3:57

but right from the start as you had

3:59

predicted it was a massive overreaction

even countries around the world who were

4:05

watching the truckers convoy

4:08

whatever language they were using the

4:10

word was basically whoa

4:12

this is extreme that's what it proved

4:14

out to be

4:15

yeah absolutely and of course we saw uh

4:18

several uh elected politicians in europe

4:21

actually called the prime minister out

4:22

on this some very embarrassing moments

4:24

on the international stage for him in

4:26

the wake of this but you know you nailed

4:28

it right there uh stock well when the

4:30

emergencies act was invoked it just

4:32

created this massive uncertainty i i

4:35

heard from people saying that they were

4:36

taking their money out of the bank they

4:37

were moving it to international bank

4:39

accounts just for just for security's

4:41

sake because they didn't know

4:43

what the prime minister uh might do next

4:46

right and so

4:47

one question when i was uh traveling

4:49

across canada with our engaged tour here

4:52

uh throughout the month of may we would

4:53

always have open question and answer

4:55

times at the end and a question that

4:57

often came up

4:58

was this question of accountability like

5:00

how how can the government just continue

5:03

to do these things run roughshod over

5:05

this like so here we have the minister

5:07

saying something we have the

5:09

authorities the the law professionals

5:11

saying something else at what point is

5:13

there accountability

5:15

with our government outside of their own

5:17

internal parliamentary self-audits you

5:20

know um how would you respond to that

5:22

question from canadians

5:25

that is a great question and

5:27

accountability in a democracy comes in a

5:30

couple of ways first of all it has to

5:32

come from your elected officials we know

5:35

that in canada now there is an alliance

5:37

between the liberal party and the

5:39

socialist party the ndp

5:41

so they are bound together and

5:43

unfortunately the type of cabinet

5:46

solidarity that is often required by a

5:48

government upon its own ministers has

5:51

now

5:52

flooded over to the actual ndp to the

5:55

members of parliament the ndp they feel

5:58

bound also to not question the

6:00

government which was really the genius

6:02

of

6:03

prime minister trudeau striking this

6:05

alliance

6:06

with the ndp just reminding your viewers

6:08

this is basically a three-year piece

6:10

pact

6:11

where they said look let's work together

6:13

for three years then there'll be an

6:14

election and people can decide but it

6:16

was the prime minister saying let me

6:18

push my stuff through you folks stick

6:20

with me and then the election you know

6:22

give me three years is basically what

6:24

he's saying so as some are calling this

6:26

uh many socialists that i know ndp

6:28

members who i'm friends with uh

6:31

see this as a an unholy alliance that

6:34

has really reduced the amount of

6:36

accountability that you're going to see

6:38

that should come from parliament itself

6:40

certainly the conservative mps and to

6:43

degree the block mps are trying to hold

6:45

the government to account but this

6:46

majority pack now in the house

6:49

really restricts the ability for an

6:52

ongoing focus on government actions and

6:54

then the other area of course in a

6:56

democracy is the media itself it is now

6:58

seen that what we call the legacy media

they have a high degree of conformity

7:04

and compliance among themselves so they

7:07

will report things that happen let's say

7:10

that we would see as not great but they

7:13

don't pursue them it's one thing to

7:14

report something and then move on

7:17

but when a media

7:19

pursues you know with energy and and

7:22

sometimes with vengeance and you know

7:24

how it classically goes the first day so

7:27

to be a report something will happen the

7:28

media report it but then if they really

7:30

want to hold the government account then

7:32

they pursue it the second date they go

7:34

and they interview more people and they

7:35

think what do you think about what the

7:37

uh prime minister says about this and

7:38

then the story line on the second day

7:40

will be anger continues or people

7:43

concerned continue and then they'll do

7:45

it a third day they'll say and it'll be

7:48

the headlines will be the rage continues

7:50

concerns about the prime minister

7:51

continues it's all media generated

7:54

mainstream media are not generating the

7:57

ongoing daily concerns that we're

7:59

hearing from the street from people so

those two areas parliament itself

8:03

because of this unholy alliance and the

8:05

ndp caving in those mps not holding

8:08

daily the government to account and the

8:10

legacy media themselves for whatever

8:12

reason reporting but not really pursuing

8:16

these considerable flaws and uh wrong

8:19

approaches being taken by the federal

8:20

government

8:22

so that you know that's pretty dismal

8:25

these two well

8:26

it's a dismal from the point of view of

8:28

democracy it is a dismal uh it's a

8:30

dismal aspect for sure okay

8:32

you know to the average canadian that's

8:34

watching this right now asking that

8:35

question about accountability what is

8:37

your word to them right now stockwell is

8:39

it just keep the the citizen engagement

8:41

pressure on where where is the avenue of

8:44

hope in terms of keeping our leaders

8:45

accountable

8:47

well again you keep coming back to the

8:49

root of the issue which is the right

8:50

route and that is the people themselves

8:52

in a democracy it is the people who are

8:55

actually in authority so to your viewers

8:57

who are people of faith if they're

8:59

praying for those in authority they

9:01

should be praying for themselves also

9:04

saying what should i be doing as an

9:07

individual citizen and what i post on my

9:10

twitter feed is please call your mps i

9:13

now other people are calling for that

9:15

too but the importance never

9:17

underestimate the importance of you as

9:20

an individual citizen calling or

9:21

emailing your mp directly asking the

9:24

question and asking for a response back

9:27

and so people need to continue it i

9:30

believe it's been working people have

9:31

been but what happens is when you send a

9:34

message of concern to your mp

9:37

when these when government parties this

9:39

would include all parties have their

9:41

weekly caucus meetings one of the

9:43

questions that gets asked is

9:46

is anybody hearing about

9:48

x whatever the issue might be so when

9:50

the prime minister in those caucus

9:52

meetings is saying is anybody hearing

9:55

anything about these mandates if a

9:57

number of mps are speaking up and saying

9:59

yeah i'm hearing stuff from my

10:01

constituent that's what will ring the

10:03

alarm bells but if they're not hearing

10:05

that if people are not calling their mps

10:07

then when that question gets raised in

10:09

caucus it's it's just a shrug uh people

10:12

say no and people aren't really

10:13

concerned about it now um the liberal

10:16

caucus though there's been a lot of rise

10:18

in the liberal caucus several mainstream

10:20

media outlets now reporting

10:22

that uh there is great discontent that

10:24

the majority of liberal members of

10:27

parliament want the mandates the federal

10:29

mandates to end

10:31

uh how do you how do you view that

10:33

what's your take on it it's the one

10:35

flicker of hope that democracy in canada

10:37

might not be as smothered as we think

10:40

when i see these stories i know and i'm

10:42

quite a few of these liberal mps you

10:44

know they're solid people we might not

10:47

agree on every policy but most of them

10:49

are there because they recognize the

10:51

voters put them there and they are

10:53

raising these things so for people

10:54

who've been sending calls and emails to

10:57

your mp it is working please keep doing

it don't stop now i got asked one more

11:03

thing on this before we shift to the

11:04

conservative leadership race

11:07

why do you think the prime minister is

11:09

resisting the calls of of so many

11:12

canadians whether it was the westjet ceo

11:14

whether it's his own liberal caucus

11:17

you know people are asking that question

11:19

too mr day is is there something else

11:21

here what is your honest gut on that

11:24

i i believe he's just so angry

11:26

that millions of canadians will refuse

11:29

to get triple backs i think he's so

11:31

furious and by the way when the federal

11:32

government puts out the numbers of

11:34

vaccinated canadians that is largely

11:37

every time they report that that is the

11:39

number of canadians who got the first

11:41

vax

11:42

the numbers who have taken the up to

11:45

three or more of axes has dropped

11:47

drastically and this is not an anti-vaxx

11:50

statement it's just when they see so

11:52

many people continuing to get coveted

11:54

and now as the numbers come in and this

11:56

is scientifically mathematically

11:58

accurate most people

that are contracting covet in fact are

12:03

those who are fully vast so i'm not

12:06

going to get into the argument or

12:07

discussion on the whys of that but that

12:09

is the fact the increase for instance

12:11

now and people can google this some

12:13

people call it the

12:14

sudden adult death syndrome sads they're

12:18

looking at the increase now and

12:20

reporting of vaccine related injuries

12:23

you know all we're asking is that there

12:25

be open and honest reporting and there

12:27

hasn't been all we're asking is that

12:29

there'd be open and honest debate so we

12:32

really can preserve the health of our

12:34

our citizens moving forward

12:37

we love canada and we want to see it

12:39

strong for generations to come

that canadians tend to go liberal for a

little while then swing back to

conservative looks like we're probably

going to have a general election at the

13:28

federal level in 2025-ish unless this

coalition breaks up in the conservative

13:33

party of canada

13:34

right now is choosing their future

13:36

leader who could be the next prime

13:38

minister so a lot of the characters on

13:41

the slate there's six of them you have

13:43

personal history with so for our viewers

13:45

right now who are getting ready to cast

13:47

that vote uh for the next leader of the

13:49

conservative party possibly the next

13:50

prime minister um one minute overview of

13:53

each of the candidates um stockwell who

13:56

are they who's who in this zoo

13:58

all of them

13:59

bring some unique attributes to the

14:02

table so i'm i'm really pleased with

14:03

that so if you want to start with uh

14:05

pierre pauliev uh pierre actually used

14:07

to work for me i was the guy who brought

14:09

him to ottawa when he was a young fired

14:12

up

recently graduated student and he went

14:15

on to become a very successful mp he's

14:18

got the attention of a lot of people he

14:20

is seen to be the front runner right now

14:23

his his grasp of the economic realities

14:26

why inflation is really happening and

14:28

what needs to be done to curb government

14:31

spending but still keep important

14:33

programs in place you know those are all

14:35

uh that that would be a forte for him

14:37

i've known for years worked uh in and

14:41

and and through him and around him at

14:43

different times uh going way back to

14:45

when he was a premier and uh in in terms

14:49

of negotiations in and out of of quebec

14:51

i like jean cheray i think he's a great

14:53

guy and he brings a real perspective

14:55

he's had some good international

14:56

experience so he brings that

14:58

to the table patrick brown i've also

15:01

worked with as a member of parliament

15:03

and known him for years

15:05

so he brings experience he's a mayor

15:08

he brings mayoralty experience he brings

15:10

mp experience now each one of these

15:12

individuals i don't necessarily agree

15:14

with all their policies but each one

15:16

does bring certain strengths to the

15:18

table

15:19

and then of course leslie lewis who i'm

15:22

supporting i supported last time and uh

15:25

reminding people and actually there was

15:27

just a pollster uh recently talking nick

15:30

nanos was talking about the fact

15:32

that uh don't do not make the mistake of

15:34

discounting leslie lewis because on the

15:37

last leadership race on the second

15:39

ballot she actually had more votes than

15:41

anybody more than peter mckay uh more

15:43

than aaron o'toole and just the way they

15:45

were concentrated in different parts of

15:47

the country was the only thing that

15:48

stopped her from winning um her approach

15:51

this time has been even more strategic

15:54

she's uh i've seen the numbers she's

15:56

increased her number of votes across the

15:57

country considerably so i'm kind of

15:59

happy because i am supporting her uh but

16:02

each of them brings strengths to the

16:03

table and it was interesting to see uh

16:05

patrick brown just recently saying that

16:08

if pierre poliev was elected that pat

16:11

brown said he wouldn't serve

16:13

because of the differences they have but

16:15

he mentioned leslie lewis and he said if

16:16

lesson lewis got elected i could serve

16:18

with her so there's some you know

16:21

fired up debate going on which is good

16:23

in any race and uh increasing amount of

16:26

support for last long as people look at

16:29

the types of policies she's talking

16:30

about

16:31

yeah it's fascinating

16:33

so much to talk about on this but scott

atkinson and roman baber do you have any

16:36

history with either of those two

16:38

uh no that's the only reason i didn't

16:40

mention them i i know them i i've i've

16:43

had conversations i think they haven't

16:45

been able to reach out and sell as many

16:46

memberships i don't think that's any

16:48

secret nothing negative about them uh

16:51

they both brought some important points

16:53

to the debate when they've been having

16:54

these uh open debates

okay so you know this obviously isn't

your first rodeo stockwell day you

served for 25 years elected nine times

uh you understand what the nation needs

17:06

in order to move forward um and you also

17:09

you know have a bit of a sense of what's

17:10

coming why why was leslie your top pick

out of the crop here on this one what is

17:15

it about her that you feel like

17:17

polls are out in front in your mind

17:21

great question a lot of people ask that

17:23

and a couple of things she's the only

17:26

one i'm using the word accomplished

17:27

carefully they're all accomplished she's

17:29

the only one of the group that was

17:31

accomplished in business before going

17:33

into politics some people may not be

17:35

aware that she founded her own law firm

17:38

ran that for 17 years successfully

17:40

before going into politics and in terms

17:42

of toughness if you wonder if anybody's

17:44

tough if you have to get up and go to

17:46

work every day with a big law firm full

17:48

of lawyers uh you know what you get

17:50

tough over time but she did that very

17:52

successfully she's the most educated and

17:54

i'm not saying that education alone is

17:57

what counts but she has a

17:59

of course uh her

18:00

bachelor's degree she's got a a degree

18:02

in environmental science so her

18:04

approaches to green energy and some

18:07

some very uh interesting thought there

18:09

along with also integrating the oil and

18:11

gas industry uh it carries extra weight

18:14

when you've got a degree in that and the

18:16

fact that she's got a degree in business

18:18

and then a doctor's in law she has

18:21

taught law she's been an instructor at

18:23

the top law schools in the country uh

18:25

she just brings a whole lot to the table

18:26

a lot of this she accomplished

18:28

as a single mom

18:30

so you know she's got tremendous

18:32

tremendous attributes and experience and

18:34

i ask people to picture in their minds

18:37

picture the debate stage that's going to

18:38

happen sooner or later when we get into

18:40

a federal election picture justin

18:42

trudeau up there and now put a face

18:44

beside his of all the candidates who do

18:47

you think is gonna grab the attention of

18:49

people when they see uh prime minister

18:51

face to face against you know one of the

18:54

other uh men or against leslie lewis and

18:57

i think she's going to really attract

18:59

attention if people haven't already done

19:01

so she's also willing to touch the

19:04

issues that some people won't touch

19:05

parental rights for instance which are

19:07

being eroded she's willing to speak on

19:09

that she's willing to speak

19:10

intelligently on the fact that we should

19:12

not be bringing um oil into canada from

19:17

countries which are not democratic which

19:19

have terrible human rights records she's

19:21

speaking very clearly on that so she's

19:24

got a broad range of issues and proven

19:27

experience that i just think gives her

19:29

the edge over the other other good

19:30

candidates but it definitely gives her

19:32

the edge

19:33

yeah and we have so much respect for her

19:35

and and the other candidates as well i

19:36

think anyone who puts their name forward

19:38

deserves the utmost of respect from

19:40

canadians it is such a grueling

19:42

grueling feat um but you know you've

19:45

worked with pierre and when i'm talking

19:47

with people a lot of times they're

19:49

saying listen we just want to see the

19:51

person at the helm of the conservative

19:52

party that has the highest chance of

19:54

actually winning in the next general

19:56

election we know that quebec has 78

19:59

ridings in a general election ontario

20:01

has 121. if you roll in all the urban

20:05

centers let's say vancouver edmonton

20:07

calgary regina winnipeg you know i'm

20:10

i've never actually calculated this but

20:11

i'm guesstimating that the urban centers

20:13

were probably pushing 170 to 200 ridings

20:17

has the epicenter of political power

20:20

started to shift from quebec being the

20:24

king maker to possibly

20:26

the ethnic vote being the king maker

20:28

across the nation

20:29

and do you think that could be that

20:31

could be a real factor like could pierre

20:33

actually win the ethnic vote

20:35

um

20:36

has that factored into your your thought

20:38

process at all

20:39

well it's key there's no question you

20:41

cannot dismiss it at all and as we've

20:44

seen

20:45

um you know patrick brown talks about

20:47

the ethnic boat the importance of that

20:49

and i met with a number of his

20:51

supporters at the edmonton debate

20:53

actually a lot of former friends of mine

20:56

um you know still friends of mine in the

20:58

sikh community who are supporting him

21:00

we had a great time because we

21:02

remembered great things we did way back

21:05

uh on my campaign

21:06

so um there are strengths that people

21:10

realize if you tap into let's face it

21:12

the ethnic community so called

21:15

is really becoming mainstream in canada

21:17

it's not even seen as you know keep

21:19

using the word minority but it's not

21:21

even really seen as that and they

21:24

traditionally most not all but they

21:26

embrace small c conservative values the

21:28

importance of family

21:30

the importance of enterprise small

21:32

business

21:33

the importance of

21:36

proper education

21:38

they really support what our small c

21:40

conservative values so patrick realizes

21:42

that pierre realizes that for sure i

21:44

think they all do to a degree and this

21:46

is why i i just because i'm supporting

21:48

her i don't want to keep going back to

21:49

this but this is why lester lewis for

21:51

instance in the gta some of the meetings

21:53

she had in the gta it was almost

21:55

entirely ethnic supports large meetings

21:59

people were energetic they were fired up

22:01

she does let's face it she brings

22:03

something you know having come to canada

22:06

as in as an immigrant with her family

22:09

and as as a young girl she knows what

22:12

new immigrants go through she has seen

22:14

her own in her own family some of the

22:16

struggles

22:17

had her mother telling her listen

22:19

there's nothing you can't do don't let

22:21

anybody tell you that you can't

22:24

so she really taps into that yeah it's

22:26

going to be a fascinating race here as

22:28

the summer proceeds

22:30

let me ask you this mr day

22:32

what your gut sense

22:35

what matters most in this leadership

22:38

race is it somebody who can unify

22:40

is it somebody who can stand up against

22:42

some of the international pressures that

22:44

have so blatantly encroached upon our

22:46

nation whether that's the who

22:48

um is it somebody that that cares about

22:51

not just the fiscal issues but the

22:52

social as well like in your mind what

22:55

matters most in a leadership candidate

22:57

this time around

22:59

it's a good blend of the very items

23:01

you've just mentioned it's got to be

23:02

somebody

23:03

i believe first of all who will stand up

23:06

for their constituents and she's proven

23:08

that she's willing to do that

23:10

her approach to parental rights that

23:12

parental rights should not be eroded

23:14

that you should be able to speak to your

23:16

kids freely and lovingly and openly

23:18

about any issue whether it's gender or

23:20

whether it's education or whatever it

23:22

might be so she's she has not been shy

23:25

about those but she's also had some

23:28

considerable effect on the international

23:30

level with the rights

23:32

with national rights or canadian rights

23:35

she was one of the leaders in pushing

23:37

back against the who who were trying to

23:40

force a treaty that many saw as

23:43

detrimental to

23:44

national sovereignty related to the

23:47

pandemic uh each nation should we should

23:50

always look at how we can work with

23:52

other countries in a cooperative way but

23:54

when you give up your sovereignty when

23:56

you say okay we will do whatever the who

23:59

tells us

24:00

then you're putting your own national

24:02

sovereignty at risk she got a national

24:05

movement going on that and as you know a

24:07

lot of the issues the items that wha

24:10

wanted to impose upon canada and other

24:12

countries were pulled back because of

24:14

the efforts to stand up against that

24:16

related to tax issues she's been very

24:18

strong she's very knowledgeable so she

24:21

brings a really solid mix at the

24:23

international level proving herself not

24:25

afraid to stand up even with

24:27

controversial issues to sometimes a an

24:30

upset national media and also the

24:33

knowledge the way strategically to

24:35

operate to get things done she's already

24:37
